This includes essentials like twin xl sheets and pillows, and clarifies when you鈥檒l need to bring things like shower shoes (for dorms with shared bathrooms) or a shower curtain (private bathrooms).

All of the dorms have laundry facilities with high-efficiency washers at $2.00 per wash and $1.60 per dry. Laundry services are paid for with the or a debit/credit card. If you don't have a debit/credit card, you can use the reverse ATM on campus to get a prepaid debit card.

Here are a few more things that you鈥檒l be glad you brought.

Nice to Have

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Sunscreen

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Tissues

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Some first aid stuff, like bandaids, headache medicine and cough drops

鈥&苍产蝉辫;A water filter system, such as Brita

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Condiments such as hot sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Posters (use 3M strips to attach, and remember that a lot of tables will be giving them away at Bash at the REC)

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Some aesthetic decorations, such as twinkle lights, a cool table lamp, or a plant (just remember that many dorms don鈥檛 get great sunlight, so a fake plant might be better)

鈥 Some first aid stuff, like adhesive bandages, headache medicine, and cough drops

Don鈥檛 Need

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Candles 鈥 diffusers and air fresheners are ok, just make sure your roommate(s) approve of the scent (more tips below!).

鈥&苍产蝉辫;A bike pump 鈥 there are air pumps all over campus, and you can even get your bike repaired at the . That, or just and/or use the bus.

The First Weeks

The first few weeks of school are fast-paced. All other Wildcats are so excited to welcome new students, and you鈥檒l be bombarded (in a good way!) with tips, tricks, opportunities, and more. Here are two events you should definitely plan to attend:

1. , August 20鈥22: Think of it as your orientation to 51青楼, where you鈥檒l be surrounded by other first-year students (aka: people who will be as excited to make a new friend as you would be).

2. Bash at the Rec, Sunday, August 23: An energetic, welcoming environment where you can learn about student clubs, club sports, and campus rec programs 鈥 and get lots of free food, swag, and coupons from our sponsors.

Wildcat Fridays

Get into the Wildcat spirit every Friday before home football games by wearing red and blue. 滨迟鈥檚 an easy way to show school pride, connect with other students, and be a part of the excitement on campus. Bonus: You can also enjoy 25% off at the Campus Store on Wildcat Fridays! 滨迟鈥檚 a great excuse to grab some new U of A gear.

Roommate Tips

In the past few years, more than 50% of incoming first-year students elected to be assigned a roommate 鈥 meaning, they didn鈥檛 decide to live with a friend or acquaintance. That means a whole bunch of the first year class is going to be living with someone they don鈥檛 know.

Sharing space with someone else is one of those essential college experiences that you鈥檒l reflect on for years after you graduate. There are a few things you and your roommate can do in the first few weeks of school to make sure those memories are happy ones.

1. Share your schedule with each other. 滨迟鈥檚 nice to know when you鈥檒l have some privacy because your roommate will be in class or at work. And, if you happen to have the same class, you may even be able to share notes and study together.

2. Decide what鈥檚 shared and what鈥檚 not. Did one of you bring a clothing steamer and the other didn鈥檛? Is that fair game to share? If one of you pays for HBO and the other pays for Netflix, is it cool to make a profile and share those streaming services?

3. Prep for challenges. Make a plan for what should happen if a roommate loses their dorm key. Also, decide who鈥檚 going to restock the toilet paper when you run out (if you have a private or suite-style room).

Remember: You don鈥檛 have to be very best friends with your roommate, but you do need to be considerate and respectful. You share space, so that means you also share responsibility. If you allow some room for getting to know each other and encourage honest communication, you may even decide to be roommates again next year!

Helpful Tech

Staying up to date with the latest and greatest in campus technology is key to starting your college career off right. Here's a list of tech information you'll want to know when you arrive on campus:

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Your University of 51青楼 student identification card 鈥 or CatCard, in U of A lingo 鈥 is in your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Ditch the back pocket shuffle and go digital.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;Whether you're walking home after dark and want to keep a friend updated on your route, or need a staged call to get you out of a date gone awry, the is your new campus safety resource. Download the app to get access to several tools tailored to help you stay safe navigating campus day and night. The SafeCats app is also where you will receive messages starting Fall 2025.

Your New Favorite Assignment Organizer

One of the biggest challenges students face when beginning college is staying on top of their assignments. The THINK TANK has a lot of to help students organize their schedule and assignments 鈥 one of the coolest is the (SOAP). The SOAP helps you plan out your assignments for each semester and keep track of them on one page (or two pages, if your schedule is packed).

10 Rules for ZonaZoo

Image
51青楼 students participating in ZonaZoo

What鈥檚 the student section like at University of 51青楼 games?

51青楼鈥檚 legendary student section is oh-so bringing it to the Big 12 this season. The energy! The excitement! The highs, and admittedly the lows. 滨迟鈥檚 all part of the ZonaZoo experience, and knowing these unofficial rules and traditions will make it that much better.

What to Know About ZonaZoo for Football Games

1. ZonaZoo Stays the Whole Game

Hail Marys, impossible comebacks, broken records, somersaults into the endzone (really) 鈥 some of the most jaw-dropping moments in University of 51青楼 football history happen when the game is in its final moments. Stay the whole game so you can tell your, 鈥淚 was there when ________鈥 story in the future.

2. Keys at Kickoff

Add to the noise at 51青楼 Stadium. During kickoff, ZonaZoo Wildcats jingle their keys to add to the roar of more than 50,000 passionate fans.

What to Know About ZonaZoo for Men鈥檚 Basketball Games

3. ZonaZoo always stands up.

I mean, you can sit down for a bit if you鈥檙e tired but the majority of the ZonaZoo section stands the whole game. As for the rest of McKale? They sit after the opposing team makes their first basket.

4. Yell 鈥淣ice shot, buddy. Do it again! 鈥

Just ZonaZoo鈥檚 way of being friendly if the opposing team misses their first free-throw!

5. Air out some clean (and dirty) laundry

Head's up for flying tees! Wildcat triples are punctuated with a tee shirt toss: tees for threes! Watch for a new tradition, where students read dirt sheets on the opposing team, rip them up, then toss 'em into the air after our first basket.

6. You can dance along with the band

The Pride of 51青楼 Pep Band (they鈥檙e the ones in the red and white stripes) have a pretty simple hand-motion dance for whenever Darude 鈥 Sandstorm plays. Watch. Learn. Join in.

You can also chant along with the band. When the opposing team fouls us and the Wildcats go to free-throw shots, the band says 鈥淵ou, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, on you, that鈥檚 who!鈥

Important Things to Know for ZonaZoo

7. Get there early.

Seating is first-come, first-served, and if you want the best view in the house (and the most-likely chance to end up on ESPN 鈥 鈥渉i, mom!鈥), you鈥檒l want to line up long before game time. Grab your friends, bring a water bottle, and start hyping yourself and fellow fans up.

Special note: For both men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball games, if you get to McKale early you can win cool stuff such as t-shirts, rally towels, raffles, food and more!

8. Wear red and blue, of course!

Whether you鈥檙e going subtle with a ZonaZoo shirt or all-out with facepaint or a full-body spandex bodysuit (can you even see the game in those things?), represent the University of 51青楼 in our school colors. Watch for themes announced on our social media pages and join in for maximum effect!

9. Know how to throw the Wildcat symbol

Image
Students displaying the Wildcat claw sign

It looks like this 鈫楋笍

10. Bear Down with pride

We saved the most important rule for last. When you鈥檙e in the ZonaZoo, you鈥檙e an extension of the team and a representative of the University of 51青楼. Follow sportsmanship guidelines to ensure a safe, comfortable, and family-friendly sports and entertainment experience for everyone (including yourself!).

I love how close the community is here. It's like one giant family! I'm able to embrace my culture and share it with others. I am currently studying at the Douglas center because it is closer to home. Studying and being a student worker here have allowed me to be around my family and pursue my dreams at the same time.

What's the best part of being a student at 51青楼 so far?

Being able to call myself a Wildcat! Since I first began thinking about my future, 51青楼 has been my go-to school. The programs, professors, and overall environment are absolutely amazing, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Go Wildcats!

What is your family like, and what will earning your degree mean to them?

My family is very traditional Mexican, and we love to eat, party, and spend time together. Earning my degree would mean that all the hard work they went through to create a safe and livable environment for the younger generations was all worth it; that I was able to accomplish my dreams, after all, thanks to their sacrifices.

What are you most passionate about? What drives you?

I am very passionate about bringing happiness to others and making sure they're okay. I have felt that way ever since I was a kid, and I decided to pursue a career in psychology because of it. I am motivated by the thought of helping people understand themselves better.

Getting To and Around Campus

Transportation Services and Commuter Hacks

Your guide to getting to, from, and around the University of 51青楼 campus without the stress.

Plan Smart

First things first: don鈥檛 just wing it. The app is your best friend for navigating campus transportation. It shows you where to find available parking lots, garages, bike racks, scooter drop zones, CatTran stops, and more 鈥 updated in real time.

Check the app before you leave home to save yourself from showing up to a full garage, needing to park further away, or making a mad dash to class.

On-Campus Wheels

Once you鈥檙e here, getting around campus is easier than you might think. 51青楼 offers several free or low-cost options to help you move between classes, housing, and everything in between:

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: A reliable shuttle system that runs along fixed routes around campus and nearby neighborhoods.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Headed home after dark? Students can request a free ride within the service boundary after hours.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Offers another free and safe nighttime transportation option, great if you need a ride after dark.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Available to students with short- or long-term mobility needs.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Drive to an outer lot, park for less, and take the shuttle in 鈥 it鈥檚 a smart way to skip the parking hunt.

Speaking of parking 鈥 our parking garages don't use the typical ticketing system. Instead, your license plate is scanned when you come in, and the rate you pay is automatically calculated when your license plate is scanned on the way out. Simply tap to pay, and be on your way.

If there's any trouble 鈥 like the scanner thinks the "O" in your license plate is a zero 鈥 press the call button and a real, on campus human can help you out.

U of A = Bike Friendly

If biking is your go-to (or something you want to try), you鈥檒l be happy to know that the U of A is right behind you. Whether you own a bike or want to borrow one, there are plenty of resources to make two-wheeled commuting easy and secure:

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Registering your bike gives you access to valet and repair services. It also helps recover your bike if it鈥檚 lost or stolen.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Skip the search for a rack. Just hand your bike off to a student valet at the Nugent Building or on the Warren Bike Path, and pick it up when you鈥檙e done.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: No bike? No problem. Borrow one for free through the university's bike share program.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Want extra peace of mind? Rent a weatherproof, secure locker for the year.

: Need a quick tune-up? Several self-service and aided stations around campus offer free tools, air, and repairs.

Explore Tucson with Ease

Getting off campus is just as convenient, with free and discounted public transit options designed for Wildcats on the move:

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: 滨迟鈥檚 totally free for all riders, and it connects campus with downtown Tucson, 4th Avenue, and beyond. No pass or app required.

Pro Tip: The "public transportation" option on your phone鈥檚 map gives you an idea of how close the streetcar is. Timing might be off by a minute or two, but it does give you a pretty good ballpark of when to be at your stop.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: Another free option that can get you across town or back home, perfect for students living off campus.

鈥&苍产蝉辫;: If you鈥檙e headed somewhere nearby, grab a Tugo bike from one of 40+ stations across the city. Students qualify for discounted passes.

Wherever you鈥檙e going, U of A has options to help you get there safely, affordably, and on time.
